For This Cause
A couple of months ago, I published my memoir in poems, Pieces, and did my first reading as part of a broader book tour, last week. This particular “piece” wasn’t on the schedule that night. But as I stood there, the Lord brought it to mind, and I read it.
I haven’t been able to stop thinking about it since.
With it being Easter weekend, it’s come back to my remembrance with even more clarity. The question at the center of this reflection feels like one the resurrection of Jesus demands we answer: His life He gave...What can I give? Not what should I do for Him, but how will I live?
Allow me to share it with you.
Long, long ago a man thought of me.
In the dark of the night,
He knelt down in the garden and prayed for me.
I was so much on His mind
that He humbled Himself and gave His life
Just to be a part of mine
His life He gave...What can I give?
Many years later, I said a prayer acknowledging who He was
I opened my heart and confessed with my mouth that I needed Him
That wasn’t enough.
I went to church on Sundays,
Bible Study on Tuesdays,
and was back in church on Friday nights...
I was reading & studying the Word,
I sang in the choir & learned some new songs
there had to be more.
I mean, after all
His LIFE He gave...What can I give?
Like that song—”Tell me what shall I render—
what shall I give—unto the Lord—”
Jesus.
Jesus. Died for me that I might be with Him for eternity
Jesus. Walks with me.
Watches over me.
Interceded for me.
Leads me.
Guides me.
Protects me.
Jesus. Lover of my soul, Savior of my life.
For me He cried, hung His head, and died.
His life He gave...What can I give?
I stand right here and say “I do.”
I DO BELIEVE that He is He Who was and is and is to come
I DO TRUST in Him—refuse to worry or doubt Him
I DO THANK Him—for His goodness, His faithfulness,
His mercy, grace, and lovingkindness
I DO SERVE Him and PRAISE Him—whether rich or poorer
Thru sickness and in health
Forever & Always
I DO promise to be true—I will not retreat-cheat-leave Him or stray
I DO promise to pursue His Purpose, His Plan, His Will, and His Way
I DO promise to be faithful, to endure to the end, to finish the race, and
WHEN I walk down the aisle of commitment today
I will lift up mine eyes to the KING and say, “I Do.”
Love, Honor, & Obey
I submit to Him my mind & my body
I commit to Him my heart & my life
I won’t look back
I look only to JESUS—my groom
His Life He gave
My hand, I give…
Happy Easter/Resurrection Sunday!
See you next Monday.
